Local Attractions:

"Ceide Fields" Europe's largest Stone Age land enclosure, the Ceide Fields, is located along a bleak, dramatic stretch of north Mayo coastline. Megalithic tombs and dwellings discovered in the enclosure date back 5000 years. There is an excellent museum on the site.

Killala Round Tower

Killala Round Tower

Killala round tower stands 84 feet high with the doorway 11 feet above the ground. It was struck by lightening sometime in the nineteenth century and subsequently repaired.


Moyne Abbey, 15th Century Abbey

It lies on the shore of a deep estuary, between Killala and Ballina. History briefly tells that Moyne Abbey was consecrated in 1462. Then burnt down by the British governor of Connaught a century or so later. and the monks persecuted. But there were monks there in some form until the late 19th century.
